Encephalitis International Conference 2024
The 2024 Encephalitis International Conference was held in person and virtually at the Royal College of Physicians from 2nd – 3rd December 2024.
The Encephalitis International Conference is a two-day event that is the largest of its kind. In 2024, the conference brought together 515 delegates across 71 countries, virtually and in person, at the prestigious Royal College of Physicians in London. People across scientific and clinical disciplines, from students to experts, assembled to shape the landscape of encephalitis by exchanging knowledge and ideas.
A record 80 abstracts were submitted, compared to 67 the previous year. The top 5 countries represented in attendance were the UK, USA, India, Moldova, and Malaysia. There was a record number of participants from low-to-middle income countries (LMIC): 216 compared to 143 the previous year. The conference saw a range of presentations, poster sessions, advice on how to apply for funding, case study discussions, and a debate on encephalitis research in low and middle income countries.
There were also many opportunities to connect and exchange ideas, experiences or discuss the latest research or clinical approaches during breaks and the two drinks receptions.
Congratulations to Ms Hannah Tennenbaum (Charite Universitatsmedizin, Berlin, Germany), prize winner for best oral presentation; Dr Jeroen Kerstens (Erasmus MC University Medical Center, The Netherlands) and Niels Vander Elst (Karolinska Institute, Sweden), for best poster presentations; and Pietro Businaro (University of Pavia, Italy), for best datablitz presentation.
