2016 - Annual Members' Meeting
York Racecourse was the picturesque setting for one of the most enjoyable Annual Members’ Meetings in our history on November 5, 2016.
This time around, the traditional business of the annual meeting of the board of trustees was combined with a literary festival to celebrate our annual theme – The Year of the Narrative.
We were treated to an overview of the past year from Dr Ava Easton, the Chief Executive of The Society, followed by talks from Professor Barbara Wilson, our president, corporate sponsor Access Legal and Professor Tom Solomon, who regaled young and old alike with tales of Roald Dahl, who he had got to know personally towards the end of the author’s life.
The literature theme continued with a moving performance of Tracing Grace by the Off The Wall Theatre Company. The play, written and directed by Annie Eves, had appeared to great acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August and again received a great reception in front of a packed audience.
Another highlight of the Annual Members’ Meeting were the handing out of the Exceptional Service Awards with the biggest cheers of the day reserved for junior fundraisers Erin Newbrook, Jayni Makwana and Ruby and Jacob Palmer.
