Kirsty Holtby

Fundraising Manager

What do you do at the charity?

As the Fundraising Manager, I am responsible for assisting the wonderful fundraisers, donors and supporters who kindly help us to raise the funds vital for our work. I am part of our small fundraising staff team, but work alongside a large group of generous individuals, organisations and businesses to achieve our aims.

Why do you like working here?

It’s an inclusive and inspiring community to be part of. Whether working with my lovely colleagues; helping fundraisers with their incredible challenges and events; meeting people who’ve benefited from or supported our services; or learning more about the condition from the network of medical professionals treating and researching encephalitis, it’s clear that everyone is passionate and dedicated to the same mission.

Tell us something about yourself

I’m generally happiest when I can get out for a run or a walk – somewhere to enjoy nature and great scenery – followed by a picnic, or stopping by somewhere with great cake (or both!).

What difference does Encephalitis International make in your opinion?

I often have the privilege of helping fundraisers and donors who are motivated because they’ve personally been affected by encephalitis, or a loved one has. I also support those who want to raise money or donate in memory of someone they’ve sadly lost to encephalitis.
These people continually remind me that Encephalitis International’s campaigning and resources are raising awareness in medical settings as well as with the general public. They want to help us shout louder. These people understand that connecting experts and studying the condition can save lives and improve diagnoses, treatments and outcomes for encephalitis patients. They want to help us support and fund more research. These people tell me that Encephalitis International’s helpline, or online peer support groups, have helped them through their most difficult times. They want to ensure that these lifelines are available to others.
To quantify the difference this charity makes is not often straightforward, but in my role, it’s certainly always evident and abundant.
