Jon Ainley

Support Line Manager

What do you do at the charity?

I provide support and information to people contacting Encephalitis International so I am often the first point of contact for people getting in touch with the organisation.

Why do you like working here?

My job is unique, I have the very privileged role of providing much needed information and support to people, usually during the most stressful and difficult circumstances imaginable. I am frequently inspired, often moved and always learning. So very lucky to be somebody entrusted enough to undertake the role and a role would not change it for the world. Not many people can say that!

Tell us something about yourself

I love cycling and get out when I can. I’m married to the most amazing and tolerant woman in the world. I have two wonderful grown up children. To keep my people skills honed I volunteer as a Community First Responder for Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

What difference does Encephalitis International make in your opinion?

While there is so much more to do awareness wise. We have informed the world so very much. We have positively influenced approaches to treatment. We have reduced the personal isolation that encephalitis often brings for so many.  We have empowered professionals from walks of health, social care and education so that those affected are better supported in all respects. However, we still have much to do!
