Dr Ava Easton MBE
Chief Executive, Encephalitis International
Dr Ava Easton is Chief Executive of Encephalitis International, a researcher and global expert on encephalitis patient outcomes and quality of life. Ava was awarded an MBE – Member of the Order of the British Empire by His Majesty The King in his New Year 2026 Honours List for her work and research in encephalitis.
Ava has published over 110 papers (in many esteemed journals such as the Lancet Neurology and Nature), several book chapters, and a book (Life After Encephalitis) on various aspects of encephalitis and its after-effects. She also speaks at conferences and lectures around the world on the condition and its impact for patients and their families (esteemed institutions have included The Karolinska Institute (Sweden), the Mayo Rochester (USA), the Royal College of Physicians (UK), Columbia (USA), and UCSF (USA)).
Ava is involved in a number of research studies and clinical trials looking into the diagnosis, management, and outcomes of encephalitis. She is a Senior Honorary Fellow in the Department of Clinical Infection, Microbiology and Immunology, University of Liverpool, UK.
Ava is member of the Global Neuro Research Coalition; an Associate Member of the Pandemic Institute; an Ambassador for the European Brain Injury Council; and is a member of the Royal Society of Medicine, the American Academy of Neurology, and the European Academy of Neurology.
Ava acts as a consultant to various media (radio and television) on encephalitis and acquired brain injury.
