Autoimmune Encephalitis Lived Experience — Kellie’s Story
Kellie shares her experience of her daughter’s autoimmune encephalitis
Kellie lives in southeast Ireland with her husband, Tomas, and has two children, Kyle and Arwen; she has worked in education for 18 years, specializing in software development. In late December 2022, her world was turned upside down when Arwen became seriously unwell. She was diagnosed in early January 2023 with autoimmune encephalitis, and thanks to the quick thinking of her paediatrician she was transferred to a specialist hospital for the appropriate treatment.
“We are forever grateful to the incredible medical team who gave us back our daughter. As a result of encephalitis, Arwen also developed epilepsy, which has made the journey even more challenging. We are still in the recovery process, but as we navigate this unknown path we know we can always rely on the wonderful support from the Encephalitis International community.”
