miDiagnostics is spun out of imec, the world-leading R&D and innovation hub in nanoelectronics and digital technologies, and a research collaboration with Johns Hopkins University, the leading US research and medical center.

It has developed a proprietary technology for highly accurate diagnostic results in under 20 minutes based on a fast PCR reaction. Its core is a proprietary silicon chip embedded in a PCR card that can process small sample volumes and performs liquid handling steps completely passively. The disposable PCR card is inserted into a reader, which conducts ultra-fast thermocycling and optical detection to generate lab-quality results. The results are visualized on a connected device in a user-friendly user interface. This design will allow to provide reliable diagnosis in a decentralized setting granting diagnostic access for everyone, everywhere, at anytime.
