2021 - Young Person's Residential Weekend

More than 30 children and parents descended on the Peak District for our Young Person Residential Weekend in August.

The action-packed weekend was our first in-person event since the start of the pandemic.

Activities included zip wires, archery, raft building, orienteering, abseiling, and singalong with a storytelling folk singer.
There were also focus groups with both parents and young people helping Encephalitis International to share their thoughts on how we can improve our services and opportunities for people to sit down and share their stories on film.

But, above all, it was a chance for families directly affected by encephalitis to come together, enjoy each other’s company and build lasting friendships.

Sara Birch-Ares, our Support Services Manager, said:

To see everyone enjoying Young Person’s Residential Weekend was really special for everyone at Encephalitis International. It really shows the value of having that face-to-face contact and being in a supportive environment where everyone understands the impact of encephalitis.
