Play the Encephalitis Society charity lottery and help build a brighter future for people with brain inflammation.

Join the Unity Lottery for as little as £1 per week and you could be in with a chance at winning one of the fantastic cash prizes, including the £25,000 jackpot, all whilst helping support our life-saving work. For every £1 entry, a minimum of 50p comes directly to the Encephalitis Society, which will help us to support more people, fund new pioneering research and continue to spread awareness about this serious neurological condition.

How does the Lottery work?

The Unity Lottery is an umbrella lottery platform which charities of all shapes and sizes can use to run their own fundraising lotteries. When you join, you are allocated a unique 6-digit lottery number. A random 6 numbers are then drawn every Friday, and if your numbers match the numbers drawn you are a winner. A match occurs if your digits are identical and in the same sequence as they are in the winning number. To win a prize, you need to match 3, 4, 5 or all 6 digits of the winning numbers in the correct sequence. Match all 6-digits in sequence and you will win the weekly £25,000 jackpot!

How to play our Lottery

Buy tickets to our Lottery through the Unity Website via their online form. Alternatively, you can telephone Unity on 0370 050 9240 and they will send you a postal form to complete. You must be 16 or over to enter and be a resident in Great Britain.

1 in 63 chance of winning a prize

A minimum of 50% of the total lottery proceeds are spent on supporting the work carried out by the Encephalitis Society: 18.4% on prizes and 31.6% on the running cost and administration of the lottery. All administration is handled by Sterling Management Centre Limited, a certified External Lottery Manager (ELM) with the Gambling Commission.

NMDAR antibody encephalitis

NMDAR antibody encephalitis is an autoimmune disease that causes psychiatric features, confusion, memory loss and seizures followed by a movement disorder, loss of consciousness and changes in blood pressure, heart rate and temperature.
Herpes Simplex virus encephalitis

Herpes simplex encephalitis is a type of infectious encephalitis which happens when herpes simplex virus (HSV) enters the brain. Usually, it begins with ‘flu-like’ symptoms followed by neurological deterioration, which may include personality and behavioural changes, seizures, weakness and difficulties in communication.
What is encephalitis?

Encephalitis is an inflammation of the brain caused by an infection or through the immune system attacking the brain in error.
Guidelines for recovery

No two people with encephalitis have the same outcomes. People recover at different paces. Recovery can be helped by having lots of rest, good nutrition, helpful social network and support from professionals.
Limbic encephalitis

The term ‘limbic encephalitis’ (LE) describes the condition when limbic areas of the brain are inflamed (swollen) and consequently not functioning properly. Most forms of LE fall into two main categories: infectious encephalitis and autoimmune encephalitis.
Death from encephalitis

Encephalitis is a serious neurological condition and unfortunately, despite improvements in specific and more supportive treatments such as excellent intensive care management, encephalitis still has a high mortality (death) rate.
West Nile encephalitis

West Nile encephalitis is a type of infectious encephalitis caused by West Nile virus. People usually become infected after being bitten by a mosquito, which has fed on an infected bird.

Emotional and behavioural changes

Following encephalitis, some people may experience emotional and behavioural changes including low mood, increased anxiety, depression, mood swings, frustration, aggression, impulsivity, disinhibition, and/or poor emotional regulation.
