Rebecca Lanning, our new Observer Trustee (Marketing and PR), is an experienced corporate affairs senior manager who is passionate about advocating for people who face greater challenges than most.

A skilled relationship builder, she currently leads UK government affairs in obesity for global pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk. As Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, and Chair of the Health and Wellbeing Board on Merton Council, Rebecca has extensive experience in policy development, leadership, and political and public communications. As a former Governor of an NHS Foundation Trust and Board Member of a local Healthwatch, she also has a depth of experience in patient and public advocacy.

Rebecca first encountered encephalitis at the start of her career at Headway – the brain injury association. She was struck by the catastrophic impact conditions like encephalitis can have on an individual, their family and wider society, and was moved by the opportunity to drive greater political and public awareness to stimulate meaningful change for people living with encephalitis.

Rebecca lives in London with her husband and two mischievous Ragdoll cats.
