Job Title: Individual Giving Manager

Reporting to: Director of Engagement

Salary: £28-32k (depending on experience)

Type: 37 Hours – Flexible Working Pattern

Base: Remote and Hybrid working available (home/our HQ in Malton, North Yorkshire)

SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF ROLE

The Encephalitis Society is the only resource dedicated to supporting those affected by encephalitis (inflammation of the brain). This inflammation is usually caused by a person’s own immune system going wrong or by an infection (like the herpes simplex (cold sore) virus or more recently COVID-19). There are approximately 500,000 new cases of encephalitis each year.

We are a small but mighty team and are totally focused on making as good as it can be for our community via our support services, our research and our campaigns.

This role will work in close collaboration with the fundraising team and share responsibility in delivering the charity’s fundraising targets which will help us deliver our vision of a world where encephalitis matters to everyone. Your role will be to develop and deliver an individual giving strategy covering the key areas of donor acquisition and retention and legacy recruitment, using digital and traditional fundraising means. You will take responsibility for growing our database of supporters through multi-channel fundraising campaigns as well as stewarding existing supporters and encourage them to convert to regular donors, major donors and legators.
The person appointed must be sensitive to the personal nature of information relating to individual members that will be available to them and be both willing and able to maintain strict confidentiality in this area. All data must be dealt with in a sensitive and professional manner.

KEY OBJECTIVES AND SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
• Management of the individual giving function through direct marketing; supporter stewardship, digital fundraising; and legacy marketing to budget and agreed timeframes
• Development and delivery of individual giving communication plans, strategies for email, search, display, paid social and other digital marketing and fundraising channels
• Using data to influence decision making and technology to support your work.

Individual Giving
• Development and delivery of strategies to maximise short and long-term income from existing individual supporters and create online and offline strategies for innovation to recruit new supporters through one-off gifts, regular giving and legacy channels
• Work on increasing income from individual donations, primarily through email and social media, and the retention and acquisition of supporters working closely with the Data Insight and CRM Manager
• Promote and grow regular giving amongst warm and cold audiences
• Develop and deliver effective supporter journeys for each audience
• Coordinate and deliver a schedule of stewardship, mailings, working with the Communications Manager on content
• Monitor the results of mailings and fundraising campaigns, optimising for best results
• To work with the Fundraising team to strategise and recruit supporters in the gaming world and to work with the team to agree where this best sits in the team for long-term delivery

Major Donors
• Working with the Executive team develop and build a major donor programme
• Develop working relationships with key service delivery staff in order to identify funding opportunities that can be used to steward donors
• Develop mechanisms to support increased levels of large one-off and regular gifts

Legacies & In Memory
• To lead on the development of effective legacy marketing, resulting in an increase of legacy income over time.
• Build relationships with donors with effective supporter stewardship techniques.
• Create a pipeline of legacy pledgers.
• To develop an In Memory giving marketing plan including a link to Legacy Marketing and stewardship.
• Help support a culture of Legacy fundraising throughout the organisation.
