We are calling all children and young people between 12 and 25 years-old UK residents to take part in a focus group residential weekend to help us shape our services aimed at this age group. We are looking to have a mixed group of children and young people affected and children or siblings of those affected by encephalitis. Those under 18 years of age and those with specific health and care needs will need to be accompanied by their parents/guardians/carers. Everyone is welcome to join but priority will be given to families within this age range on a case by case basis.

The residential weekend will take place at Hollowford Centre, Castleton, Derbyshire on Friday 20th November to Sunday 22nd November 2020.

The weekend includes a focus group session, filming and outdoor activities and adventures.

The focus groups will explore the encephalitis-related needs of this age group, the gaps in our information and support services and also the future developments of our services. These sessions will be run by experts with experience in encephalitis and/or particularities of this age group.

We also plan to do some filming around families’ experience of encephalitis. Sessions for parents on family resilience will be available. Like most of our events, this weekend will also be an opportunity to connect, share experiences and have some fun.

The weekend which includes accommodation for two nights, all meals and activities is free for children and young people. The cost for parents/carers is £125/person (VAT inc). Places are limited and there will be a selection process to enable us to bring together people from different backgrounds and experiences (e.g. different types of encephalitis, various post-encephalitis difficulties, different age-groups, people affected/family members).

If you would like to come, please fill in the booking form below before 1st May 2020. If you would like more information before you decide whether to join us, please get in touch with us on [email protected]  or 01653 692583.
