The Annual Encephalitis Conference is dedicated exclusively to encephalitis and covers epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation in both children and adults, covering both infectious and autoimmune aetiologies.

Lecturers include cutting edge insights from global leaders in the field covering hot topics, critical research questions, and approaches to the key clinical challenges informed by the latest research.

This conference will be of interest to a range of professionals from across the globe, including Neurologists, Psychiatrists, Infectious Disease specialists, Immunologists, Intensive Care and Emergency medical staff, General Practitioners, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and other allied Health Professionals involved in the clinical care or research of encephalitis.

Professionals of all levels from medical students, junior doctors, and PhD students, to Senior Clinical Lecturers, Consultants, and Professors or equivalent professional experience will benefit from attending this Conference.

The Conference is a full day conference with renowned encephalitis experts speakers, a dedicated poster presentation area and a wine and nibbles networking opportunity. CPD points will be awarded.

The Encephalitis Society is currently involved and supports projects which aim to improve the diagnosis and management of encephalitis in countries such as Brazil, Malawi and India. To encourage participation to the Conference, we are pleased to offer three bursaries towards the Conference costs to applicants from Brazil, Malawi and India.

Each bursary consists of:

  • £500.
  • Free entry to the Conference.
  • Two nights 4 star accommodation in London for the night before and the night of the conference.


  • Medical professional of any level resident in Brazil, Malawi or India.
  • Professional member of the Encephalitis Society.
  • The bursary is intended for those, who do not have full financial support from their hospital/institution or any other external sources. 


  • Winners are expected to attend the full day conference.
  • Winners are expected to obtain the appropriate visa to attend the Conference.
  • Winners will need to write a post for our blog or an article for our Connect Newsletter about their experience at the Conference no later than 31st December 2019.
  • All successful applicants will be required to refund the full bursary, if they fail to attend the conference and take up the supported place. 
  • Winners are expected to pay all other costs/expenses not covered by the Bursary.

To submit your application for the bursary place, please write no more than 500 words saying what you would get out of attending the conference and how you would share what you have learnt with others.   • Title and full name.
  • Contact details.
  • Occupation/job title and place of work/educational Institution.
  • Letter of recommendation from your supervisor/line manager/tutor.
