Introduction

Encephalitis is an often life-threatening illness caused by infection, usually viral, or by autoimmune diseases affecting the brain. Subsequently many people are left with an acquired brain injury, the degree and severity of which will vary.

This Conference will bring together people from many of the disciplines involved in the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of people affected by encephalitis; will address a range of issues, with a significantly practical focus; will present current research and offer a key opportunity for inter- disciplinary networking.


Target Audience

The conference will be of interest to Epidemiologists and Virologists; Neurologists and Rehabilitation Consultants; General Practitioners and Nurses; Educational, Clinical and Neuro-psychologists; Physio, Speech and Language and Occupational Therapists; Social Workers and Case Managers; Community Psychiatric Nurses; Educationalists and all those involved in working professionally with people (adults and children) affected by an acquired brain injury resulting from encephalitis.


Exhibition

Opportunities are available to take part in the conference exhibition. The Exhibition package costs £600 for corporate organisations and £480 for charitable organisations. The package includes:

Paper Presentations

Papers are invited for presentation at the conference. Those wishing to present must complete and return a paper presentation form, together with abstract, to the Encephalitis Society no later than Friday 8 July 2005.

Those wishing to submit posters at the conference must complete and return a poster submission form, together with abstract, to the Encephalitis Society no later than Friday 8 July 2005.

Venue

The conference is to be held in Vanbrugh College at the University of York, Heslington, York YO10 5DD. The University is 2.5 miles from the centre of the beautiful medieval city of York which is easily accessible by rail, road and air.


Accreditation

Accreditation had been applied for Postgraduate Educational Allowance and for Continuous Professional Development. Certificates of attendance will be providing at the end of each day.


Accommodation

Accommodation is provided for full conference paying delegates in en suite rooms. Standard (non en suite) rooms are provided at the student rate. A range of good quality hotel accommodation is available in York www.york.roomcheck.co.uk
